Lilian Hayball writes - 9 March 2010.
This is a picture that appeared in the PNG newspaper 'Nation' on 5 Feb 2010, accompanying an article about 'Expat Womens' experiences in PNG', a book available at the UNI Library in Port Moresby, and perhaps at Lae Unitech also.
Such students as these, celebrating 'Big Day', are now possibly married, working and travelling the world. This is one way I remember my students at Auyura during the years 1981 - 1986, when I taught Biology and my husband Mike Clarke taught Physics, under Dan Kunert's kindly headship.
We remember Rosalie and Reg Everest [Drama. Biology], Billy [Technician] the Treagusts [Librarian, Deputy ead], the Sandersons [English, Maths], the Fogelmans [Chemistry], the Cains family, Mac Dandava [Maths], Sister.... from Australia, the Potters [Art], and many more teachers of different nationalities with whom we have lost touch and whose names are in a PNG address book I have somewhere. We have retired from teaching the Sciences since last year, summer 2009, and are travelling, currently in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Find us on Facebook!
